Schola Cantorum

About Schola Cantorum

Schola Cantorum offers a welcoming environment for singers who enjoy Mediaeval and Renaissance music. Established in 1987, the mixed choir brings together up to 30 voices focused on a cappella singing. Members explore plainsong, polyphony and madrigals, performing in concerts and church services, sometimes alongside orchestras or other ensembles. The choir is conducted by Courtney Hickmott and provides a dedicated setting for those interested in preserving and performing early music traditions.

The Setting

Based in Riccarton, Christchurch, Schola Cantorum sits within the vibrant Canterbury arts community. Singers from across the region can take part in regular rehearsals and performances that connect with local churches and concert venues. The location makes it straightforward for Christchurch residents and visitors from surrounding areas to attend sessions and contribute to the choir's schedule of events.
