Henkada: The Club Experience
Judo clubs like Henkada provide members with a comprehensive pathway to personal growth through this multifaceted Olympic sport, discipline, fitness regimen, art form, and self-defence system. Established in 1958, our club delivers structured training that emphasises the foundational elements of judo, originally developed by Dr. Jigoro Kano in 1882. Participants engage in practices that cultivate essential physical attributes, including strength, flexibility, agility, speed, balance, explosive power, and endurance. The dynamic interplay of attack and defence techniques sharpens reaction time, coordination, and physical self-assurance, enabling students to transform physically—emerging bigger, stronger, and faster with consistent involvement.
What sets judo apart in a club setting is its adaptability to all skill levels and ages, making it an enriching experience for lifelong learners. Our sessions are tailored precisely: PeeWees for children aged 4 to 7 run from 5:30 to 6pm, Juniors for those aged 8 to 13 from 6 to 7:15pm, and Seniors for individuals aged 14 and upwards from 7:30 to 9pm, occurring every Monday and Wednesday evenings. This schedule supports busy lifestyles, offering opportunities to build not only athletic prowess but also mental discipline and camaraderie within the judo community. Members often find that regular practice instils a profound sense of accomplishment, as the sport's principles promote perseverance and respect in every throw and grapple.
At Henkada, the focus remains on authentic judo principles, ensuring that each session contributes to well-rounded development. From mastering basic throws to refining advanced defences, practitioners gain tools for fitness and self-protection that extend beyond the mat. The club's longstanding presence since 1958 underscores its commitment to quality instruction, drawing on decades of tradition to guide new generations in this enduring martial art.
