What Makes Gore Bridge Club Special

The Gore Bridge Club offers a warm and welcoming atmosphere where players of all abilities come together to enjoy the timeless card game of bridge. Founded in October 1963, this longstanding club has fostered a strong sense of community, with some of the original members still actively participating today. With approximately 60 members, we're a friendly bunch dedicated to making every session enjoyable and supportive. Bridge here isn't just about the cards—it's a social highlight that promotes mental agility and lively conversations.

Weekly games are a cornerstone of our activities, held consistently throughout the year on Monday nights and Friday afternoons. These regular sessions provide a relaxed yet stimulating environment for both seasoned players and newcomers. Adding to the excitement are our two annual tournaments: the Junior and Intermediate Tournament at the end of May, and the Open B Tournament in October. These events draw enthusiasts from the region, creating memorable days filled with competition and camaraderie.

Membership is straightforward and value-packed, with an annual subscription of about $85, making bridge one of the most affordable and entertaining pastimes available. Session fees are just $6 for Monday evenings, and $6 plus a plate for Fridays, ensuring everyone can participate without breaking the bank. Casual players are most welcome, so whether you're a local looking to try bridge or someone passing through Gore, our doors are open to all.

About the Venue

Located at 18 Traford Street in Gore, opposite the Anglican Church, the Gore Bridge Club's clubrooms serve as a central hub for our activities in the heart of Southland. Gore itself has a rich history tied to the region's pioneering spirit, with its development as a key Southland town reflecting the close-knit communities that have thrived here for generations. Our club connects deeply to this heritage, having been established in 1963 as a gathering place for locals to engage in hobbies and special interests like card games.

Sessions are scheduled for convenience: Mondays start at 6:50pm for a 7:00pm play, and Fridays at 1:20pm for a 1:30pm start. This setup allows members to easily fit bridge into their routines, whether after work or during the daytime. Nestled in Gore's welcoming Southland landscape, the venue embodies the area's tradition of community-focused recreation, where bridge clubs like ours have long played a role in bringing people together for healthy, enjoyable pursuits.
