Auckland Gliding Club
The Auckland Gliding Club was born under multiple parents in the late 1920’s and early 1930’s, a kind of a surrogate birth; first under the banner of the Auckland Model Aircraft Club, through to its incorporation as a separate entity under its present name on 16th July 1936. The club chose the AGM held on 30th April 1931 as its birthday to be celebrated, although there are other important dates that could also have been selected. A lot happens in 80 years. It is only thanks to an extraordinary list of dedicated members that the club today can enjoy its own airfield and its fleet of modern gliders. Like most outdoor sports, Gliding is affected by nature and local weather conditions. Throughout the summer months we normally operate each Saturday, Sunday, public holidays and by arrangements on Wednesdays. During winter months the flying days will vary from week to week and during the wettest part of winter we are often closed due to excessive water on our airfield.

Located at 264 Appleby Road, Drury 2577, in the Auckland region, the Auckland Gliding Club is ideally positioned for those exploring gliding opportunities near the city. Drury offers a peaceful rural backdrop, just a short drive from Auckland's urban buzz, making it an accessible spot for weekend escapes. The surrounding area features open landscapes perfect for gliding, with the airfield serving as our central hub for all activities.
While our operations are weather-dependent, summer brings reliable flying on Saturdays, Sundays, public holidays, and arranged Wednesdays. In winter, schedules adapt to conditions, with potential closures during wet periods due to water on the airfield. This location enhances the gliding experience, allowing pilots to take advantage of New Zealand's varied winds and vistas. Nearby, members can enjoy the tranquility of Drury's countryside, complementing the exhilaration of flight with post-session relaxation in a scenic setting.
